Train Tickets Tokyo To Kyoto
Shinkansen or travel discount ticket for student living in Japan?
My family is coming here next year to visit me, they are bringing their JR rail pass and I have to guide them because they know little Japanese.
Searching for fares of shinkansen I got shocked because this trip will cost me a LOT of money if I go with them.
I have checked the buses and trains (they are more cheap but from example going in shinkansen to Tokyo-Kyoto is around 2 hrs, and in train is 8 hrs.)
Have anyone living here found some discount tickets or can give me an advice of how can I go with them in their trip.

If you are going to a Japanese college, you can get student discount by presenting your 学生証 gakuseisyo (student ID) to ticket counter.
Shinkansen fare is divided into 2 parts, regular fare and Shikansen fee. Regular fare between Tokyo and Kyoto is 7,980 yen, one way. So you can get 20% discount on this part. It could be discount of about 1,600 yen.
I don’t think you can get much other discount.
